The company behind Mozarts and Einsteins started out in 1992 as a handful of passionate music educators working above a corner deli in East Brunswick, NJ. I was one of those educators and I loved my job. In 1997 when the offer was presented to me to take over as owner I jumped at the chance. We quickly grew to several hundred students of all ages, ran out of studios and parking and expanded into a shopping center in Spotswood in 2005. But something was missing.
Prior to becoming owner of the school, I'd worked in a NJ public school system during the day as an elementary and middle school general/vocal music teacher. I always wondered why these children didn't get to experience music every day but were required to take all the academics daily. Where was the balance? Education was lopsided; left-brain dominant. I didn't think that was wise or fair for the students. And I wanted to do something about that.
I eventually discovered in Texas what was to become the basis of Mozarts and Einsteins preschool; a school model where the arts and academics were given equal time and weight for children during the day. So I set out to develop something similar in the New York area. We opened our first arts and academics preschool in Park Slope, Brooklyn in 2013, and our second preschool in Jamesburg, NJ in 2015.
Most recently, we merged our music school in NJ into the same building with our preschool in NJ, creating not just a preschool, but a campus! We now have the beginnings of a school-aged arts aftercare program for elementary and middle school children, and music and art lessons offered for all ages, evenings and Saturdays.
