We're busy, working parents. We get it. You want your child to be happy in their time after school. But, here's the reality. Most after school care programs are mediore at best. In fact, here's a description from a teenager who suffered through 6 years of typical school aftercare when she was in elementary school:

The teachers at my school's aftercare seemed like they didn't want to be there, with the possible exception of one woman one year who would sometimes teach us how to crochet. For snack we all had to sit with our hands folded, and typically they gave us rice cakes or saltines. We didn't have a choice. It was good being with my friends, but when my friends would get picked up before me, I would just stare at the wall and hear the constant hum of the heater or the air conditionner. We weren't, most of the time, allowed to interact with children in different grades. The teachers would out-loud hope for parents picking us up as early as possible so that they could leave and go home."
